This is a very chunky, 1.5 inch deep canvas. (38 mm). The edges are painted black.
This painting was inspired by memories of kayaking along the south coast of the UK. Sand and sea, the movement of the boat riding the waves, sunlight glinting on the water and curious seagulls.
I used pallet knives to build layers of acrylic paint and mixed in locally collected sand to add texture. With my pallet knives I slid wet paint over wet paint and used the edges of the knives to draw lines and shapes. I love the soft colours and movement in this painting.
