# Annette Price Art | London Abstract Artist | Original Paintings & Commissions

> Annette Price is a London-based abstract artist whose work is driven by a deep fascination with water: its beauty, its restless movement, and its transformative power. She creates original mixed-media paintings on canvas, paper and canvas board, and accepts commissions for both homes and commercial spaces.

## About the Artist

Annette Price was born in Worcester, UK, in the 1960s and has drawn and painted since childhood. She studied BA (Hons) Illustration and Graphic Design at Kingston University, London, before pursuing a career as a freelance photographer specialising in water and aquatic environments. In her early thirties she took up kayaking, which transformed her photography and drew her firmly towards wild water, adventure sports and aquatic environments. In 2004 she qualified as a diver, taking her cameras underwater and opening up an entirely new perspective on water. She has also explored caves and disused mines, discovering how water sculpts stone over millennia and transforms decay into unexpected beauty through mineral patterns and colour.

Annette is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) award (2005), granted for the development of her underwater photography. She is a member of a-n The Artists Information Company and the Visual Artists Association (VAA).

All of that lived experience — thirty years as a photographer, years spent kayaking, diving, caving and exploring wild places — now runs through everything she paints.

## Artist Statement

Annette's work is driven by a deep fascination with water: its beauty, its restless movement, and its transformative power. Water sustains life, reflects light, intertwines with plants and people, and shifts its very form in response to temperature, gradient and environment. It is both constant and ever-changing.

Her goal is to capture not just how water looks, but how it *feels*. Kayaking has taught her the awesome power of a river in spate. Diving has revealed the otherworldly calm of weightlessness beneath the surface, and the glittering magic of bioluminescent plankton on a night dive. That embodied, physical knowledge informs every mark she makes.

## Artistic Process & Materials

- Works in mixed media on stretched canvas, paper and canvas board
- Builds paintings in layers using expressive brushstrokes, palette knife marks, pouring and splattering
- Brings the boundary between land and water into the work by mixing in sand and gravel collected at the water's edge
- Uses palette knife work to suggest plants, flowers and mud
- Some works incorporate highly reflective materials: diamond dust, gold leaf, silver leaf, copper leaf, and sparkling stones — reflecting water's nature as a perpetual mirror
- The process is intuitive, physical, and never the same twice

## Commissions

Annette accepts a small number of commissions each year for both private homes and commercial spaces. Commissions are collaborative: she begins with a conversation to understand the space, the light, the colours and the feeling the client wants to create. She shares colour directions and compositional ideas before beginning, provides progress photographs throughout, and delivers personally within London at no extra cost. Clients outside London are consulted by video call and works are shipped via specialist art couriers. Each commissioned painting comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
