Inspiration
Spectrum Surge was inspired by playing in the surf while kayaking, the water tumbling and crashing all around. Droplets of water flying in all directions, contrasting with the darkness of the water or sky, depending on which way up I was and the angle of the boat.
With this painting I loaded my pallet knife with small amounts of different and contrasting coloured paints, and repeatedly threw paint at the canvas, flicking it from my pallet knife, causing the paints to wrap around each other, in mid-air, before hitting the canvas. This created the gorgeous little swirls and spirals of colour that form this painting.
