About Finding Santuary

This vibrant mixed-media painting captures the exhilaration of kayaking through ocean surf, where turbulent waves meet the hidden world beneath. Bold sweeps of ultramarine, crimson, and turquoise dance across a textured surface built with sand, gravel, and clay, whilst touches of gold leaf catch the light like sun on water.

Four fish shelter beneath the energetic surface, embedded in the painting's layers. They represent the living ecosystem that exists below every paddle stroke, a reminder of the precious, fragile marine world that supports our joy on the water. This isn't a painting about what's lost, but about what's there, thriving beneath the wild beauty of the waves.

The title reflects both the refuge the fish find under the turbulence and the ocean itself as sanctuary: a protected space, a place of vitality, and for this paddler, a source of pure joy. The textured, layered surface invites you to look closer, discovering new details with each viewing, just as the ocean reveals its secrets to those who spend time in its embrace.

Delivery and Returns

Delivery is included

Every painting on this site is sent with free UK delivery, fully insured, already included in the price. There is nothing added at checkout and nothing to calculate. The figure you see beside the work is the figure you pay.

I pack every painting myself. These are textured surfaces with gold, silver and copper leaf, so they travel face-protected, corner-guarded and double-boxed, and they leave the studio in the condition they left the easel.

In London, I deliver by hand

If you are in London, I bring the work to you myself and I will be in touch to arrange a time that suits you.

I do this because it is the best part of the process. I get to see where the painting is going to live, and if the light or the wall is not quite what you imagined, we can talk about it there and then rather than by email a week later. There is no charge for this.

Elsewhere in the UK

Small and medium works travel by insured courier and usually arrive within five to ten working days.

Larger works, above around a metre, go with a specialist fine art courier who runs scheduled routes rather than next-day services. Please allow up to fourteen working days for these. It is slower, and it is worth it: the work travels with other paintings, in a vehicle built for the job, handled by people who move art for a living.

Whichever route your painting takes, I will email you when it leaves the studio and let you know roughly when to expect it.

How your painting arrives

Ready to hang. Every canvas comes stung and with the sides painted, so there is no framing to arrange and nothing further to buy. I include a signed certificate of authenticity and how to care for it.

Open the parcel while the driver is still there if you can, and keep the packaging until you are happy with the work.

If something is not right

Tell me straight away and send a photograph. Everything is fully insured in transit and I will put it right, either with a repair, a replacement or a full refund. This has not happened yet, and if it ever does it is my problem to solve, not yours.

Changing your mind

If you buy an original from the shop and it is not what you hoped for, you have fourteen days from the day it arrives to let me know you would like to return it, and a further fourteen days to send it back. It needs to come back in its original packaging and in the condition it arrived in. Return postage is yours to cover, and I will refund the full purchase price once the work is safely home.

Commissioned paintings are made for you specifically and cannot be returned, which is exactly why the commission process has an approval stage built into it before the work is finished.

Outside the UK

I send work overseas by arrangement rather than through the shop, so that we can find the right route and the right cost for where you are. Email me with the painting and your country and I will come back to you with a proper quote.

Before you buy

If you are weighing up whether a painting will work in your room, please ask. Send me a photograph of the wall and the measurements, and I will return the photograph with the painting on your wall. I want you to be happy with your choice of painting before you buy rather than have you wondering afterwards.

Email me or use the contact page. I answer everything myself.
