The Artist Support Pledge

I am delighted to announce that I am taking part in the Artist Support Pledge, a wonderful initiative built on a simple idea: artists supporting artists.

What is the Artist Support Pledge?

The Artist Support Pledge (ASP) was created in 2020 by the contemporary British painter Matthew Burrows MBE, as a way to help artists survive during the pandemic. It has since grown into a global movement with a generous culture at its heart, and it is needed just as much now as it was then.

The idea is simple. Artists offer their work for sale at £220 or less (plus shipping), and anyone can buy directly from the artist. Every time a participating artist reaches £1,100 in sales, they pledge to spend £220 on the work of another artist. So the generosity keeps circulating: collectors support artists, and artists support each other.

You do not need to be an artist to buy. Anyone can take part as a buyer, and it is a lovely way to start or grow an art collection with original, affordable work while directly supporting working artists.

What I am offering: the Under Pressure Minis

For my pledge, I am offering my Under Pressure collection of Mini original paintings. Each one is 8 x 6 inches (20 x 15 cm) on canvas board, priced at £140, which sits comfortably within the ASP limit of £220.

Shipping is free for UK buyers. For overseas buyers, shipping will be added at checkout.

This collection was inspired by night dives during my commercial diver training in the cold, dark waters of Fort William, Scotland. One dive in particular has stayed with me: walking into a loch at midnight, heavy boots pinning us to the bottom, torch beams cutting through the murk, and bioluminescent plankton sparkling all around us as we moved. These mixed media Minis translate that experience into abstract form, built up in layers of texture paste and acrylic with brushes and palette knives, some finished with gold leaf highlights.

You can read the full story behind the collection in my earlier Journal post, Under Pressure: A New Mini Collection.

My pledge

I have created a dedicated Artist Support Pledge page on my website where you can follow my ASP journey. Here is how it will work:

All the available paintings in the collection will be displayed on that page. As paintings sell, they will move to a gallery of sold works displayed below the available ones, so you can watch the pledge progress in real time.

Once I have sold £1,100 worth of paintings, I will honour the pledge by purchasing the work of another artist, or artists, to the value of £220. Those paintings will then be posted below my sold works, with a link to the artist's website (assuming they are happy for me to share it). I am genuinely looking forward to this part. Choosing another artist's work to live with is a joy, and being able to champion them on my own website makes it even better.

How you can take part

If one of the Under Pressure Minis speaks to you, you can buy it directly from the collection page. Every purchase does double duty: it supports my practice, and it brings me closer to putting £220 into another artist's pocket.

I will be sharing the paintings on Instagram with the #artistsupportpledge hashtag, so do follow my account, @annettepriceart, to see them as they are posted.

You can also support the wider project by following @artistsupportpledge on Instagram, exploring the #artistsupportpledge hashtag to discover artists and makers from around the world, and sharing posts you love. Saving, commenting and sharing genuinely boosts visibility for everyone involved.

If you have any questions about the paintings or the pledge, do get in touch. And if you would like news of new work, shows and offers straight in your inbox, you can join my newsletter.

Generosity is infectious. Let's keep it circulating.
