Exploring British woodlands and forests is always a lift to the spirit. The air is sharp with the scent of damp leaves, branches whisper overhead, and water threads its way through the landscape with a voice of its own. Streams twist and dart through the undergrowth, fish flickering in the shadows. Pools and ponds reflect the shifting canopy overhead, turning it into ripples of colour. Slow rivers gather everything around them, pulling earth, autumnal leaf fall and sky into one sweeping movement.
This evolving series of paintings is shaped by the restless flow of water moving through British woodlands and forests during autumn.
