The Daily

Abstract

These abstracts are small paintings that I create to experiment with different ideas, techniques and materials. They are a visual diary of abstract ideas which I hope you will enjoy.

Mixed media;

  • Acrylic paints
  • House paint
  • PVA glue
  • Talcum powder
  • Wood base approx. 13cm x 25cm

Peace and calm.

For this painting, I mixed together, in approximately equal portions, matte white house paint, PVA glue and talcum powder to create a texture paste. I applied it to the board with a palette knife, then drew into it with a wide-toothed comb. The lines have softened but are still clearly visible.

After it had dried thoroughly, I painted a very diluted glaze in pale blue with a little red over the painting to allow the paint to pool in the creases. I then used my gelli plate to add texture to the surface in burnt umber and white.

 Check back tomorrow for another painting.....
